MINDSPACE

Defined and influenced by our existence in the universe and the relationships between cell structure, particle physics and the forces of gravity and light, MINDSPACE pieces are abstract, non-objective art.

 SMALL SCULPTURES

“In the 1970s everyone was interested in the liquid medium of hot glass and expressing that quality of it, but I thought the language of our time was really the industrial glass technology that was being developed.”

Untrained in traditional glassmaking methods, I scrounged commercial sheet glass from dumpsters and abandoned buildings and taught myself how to fuse them together under heat and pressure. Out of financial necessity, and not having the resources to buy glass and melt it, I combined the two major glass-working traditions—fusing and blowing—by forcing a bubble of air through a stack of fused plates to produce a hollow shape. That process gave me time to think about and use tools to shape the forms.
