I draw and make maquettes and never think of them as finished forms. As my ideas progress, I look back and see that I can reconfigure the shape and save the time and material and get directly to what I am thinking about. I always need to make the work with my hands. As long as I make the work myself, I can decide when I can start and stop; and what I can destroy. I always want to be in a position to destroy an object, to turn back or to make a change in that object.
In art, the idea is the most import aspect of the work. When an artist creates a conceptual form of art, most of the planning and decisions are made beforehand – with drawings and maquettes. The idea becomes tool that makes the art. The execution is routine.
