In combining more than thirty laminated and fused layers of glass, interlayer and woven fiber materials, Spectral Boundary exemplifies Tom’s pioneering artistic effort to interpret the relationship between an advancing industrial culture and North Carolina’s textile heritage. The forty-foot monumental glass wall, originally installed within the 19th century carriageway of the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, was relocated to the new Mint Museum Uptown in 2010. Serving both a functional and artistic complement to the architecture, the work is integral to the museum’s permanent collection.
