Framing Space is artist Tom Patti’s newest work in glass and is inspired by his interest in the history of frames and framing from Early Egypt to Postmodernism. Gold has been used to adorn pharaohs' tombs, enhance Greek and Roman art and architecture, display Renaissance paintings and opulence, and decorate the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy and churches during the Baroque and Rococo periods. The gilded frame remains iconic for its ability to convey grandeur and captivate viewers. In this series, the frame becomes both subject and content. Patti’s use of gold color, iridescence, and melted forms combines the contemporary with the traditional, deconstructing and re-interpreting historical motifs from ancient times to today.
